The Musical Self Project

In my own experience, I have encountered music as a presence that can be tapped into, and this presence ‘plays’ the musician when s/he is open to being played.  This experience has brought me into a very different relationship with concepts such as ‘performance’ and ‘improvisation’ and has brought me into a deeper understanding of the different aspects of music and its’ ability to be transformational, informing my music making in a huge way.   My experience has been informed by a life of studying many different styles and aspects of music, working within music education, shamanic practices, and my current training with Chloe Goodchild as a Naked Voice facilitator.
I am interested in researching how we as musicians can access our authentic sound through an exploration of different methods such as working with silence, meditative spaces and repetitive sounding through the voice and with instruments.   How does our working with the voice inform how we play instruments?   What happens when we allow ourselves time to explore one tone for a while, or the movement from one note to another and back again?   What is it that brings us into a space where we are ‘being played’ by music rather than ‘playing’ it?  When we encounter that sound coming from ourselves, how does that change our relationship to music?
